EXCLUSIVE - Schweinsteiger's Lampard shirt fuels rumour of Chelsea move

Chelsea’s rumoured pursuit of Bayern Munich’s Bastian Schweinsteiger has taken a peculiar twist this week when pictures emerged of him having a kickabout wearing a shirt with Frank Lampard’s name emblazoned on the back.

The shirt in question was the one that the former West Ham man wore during England’s World Cup elimination at the hands of Germany in Bloemfontein as the pair swapped jerseys at the final whistle.

While the exchange was almost certainly just a sportsmanlike gesture at the end of a keenly fought contest, there may be some keen to link the event to a form of tapping up.

Having seen the conduct of Barcelona’s Spain players over their blatant attempts to woo Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas to Camp Nou, it would seem that some clubs are going to extraordinary lengths to influence players that are under contract elsewhere

And Schweinsteiger almost certainly wore the top as a show of fun rather than as a Paul Ince-esque indication of his wish to emulate Lampard and join Chelsea.
