As we come closer to the 17th of July we draw closer to the 2010/2011 season. We kick off our Pre-Season with a fixture against Crystal Palace before we travel to the Netherlands for a clash against Ajax Amsterdam. With 11 first team players still away on holiday Carlo Ancelotti will give several players a chance to impress him.
Who will he play especially when there is no Didier Drogba, Nicholas Anelka, Frank Lampard, John Terry, Carvalho, Ferreria, Ivanovic, and several others. With so many players out this fixture against Crystal Palace could be a tricky one.
But in this troublesome situation we might find some good news. The fact that many of the clubs youngsters could be given a chance to shine in front of the manager before the season commences. One of these players who could cherish this oppurtunity is Josh McEachran.
This 17-year-old Englishman has caught the eye of many Footballing pundits. His role in England's U-17 European Championship win didn't go unnoticed. At the age of 17 the Englishman is now regularly training with the First team squad. Furthermore, he is hopeful that come Saturday he can see his name on the team sheet.
The absence of 2 strikers could mean a formation of a new partnership up front. Daniel Sturridge and Fabio Borini could both line up along side each other. Sturridge's first season at Chelsea gifted him 5 goals. One of the most talented and ambitious youngsters at the club he has made it clear that he will fight for a place in the starting line up.
Fabio Borini on the other hand is a favorite of manager Ancelotti, who has likened him to Italian great Filipo Inzaghi. The small Italian has pace and great dribbling skills but is yet to net for the Chelsea First team.
Last but not least is a player that most of us have heard off because of his sizzling performances for the reserves last year. Connor Clifford, the young Irishman has shown Lampard like qualities in his long range strikes and passing ability. He will hope to make it to the starting line up or at least the subs bench.
Carlo Ancelotti has a truck full of talent at his disposal and its almost sure that we are to see 1 new face in the starting line up on Saturday. Benayoun is certain to be handed a debut; whereas, Mikel and Essien could return. McEachran will hope to show off his skills so he can be a active part of the Carlo Ancelotti's plans next year.
This Chelsea Squad and system has given the manager a lot to think about. How and who he will play on Saturday might give us a faint idea about what he hopes to achieve this season and who he hopes to improve this season.
