Things Tough at Chelsea?

Football - Chelsea v Blackburn Rovers Barclays Premier League - Stamford Bridge - 17/5/09..Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich Photo via NewscomLast week reports emerged from Stamford Bridge that all players were told that they would recieve little or almost no bonuses this year. Apparently, the purse strings have been tightened recently at Chelsea. Ron Gourlay had to inform the 100,000 pound/week players of this news.

Players were shocked because they thought the meet was just a normal Pre-Season meeting. It seems that they were told that they will recieve bonuses ONLY if they win silverware. Is this the Russian Billionaire's method to motivate players to win the Holy Grail, the Champions League. It seems to have worked as a day later Chelsea smashed 6 past West Brom to record the biggest ever opening day win.

Roman Abrahmovich is playing it smart and has been cutting down on salaries since the departure of Joe Cole, Michael Ballack and Deco. All of which were being paid wads of cash. Players feel that with less money going in salaries they should have better bonuses.

Are Chelsea players correct to be disappointed at having bonuses cut?
