Predicting Chelsea's Carling Cup Face-off with Newcastle

Chelsea has been on a roll into the new season. After a poor pre-season which saw doubts being raised on their capability to defend the EPL title, the Blues' have proved all their doubters wrong by displaying a superb complete attacking football.

Ancelotti's men has now scored 21 goals and conceded just one which is very impressive. Chelsea though will face their real test next weekend when they face the high-spending but average performing Manchester City who have brought in top stars in order to compete with the top teams of the Premier League.

But even before they face City, the Blue boys face Newcastle in their Carling Cup fixture. The Toons have been back in the top flight with a bang and are in good touch. They have a host of promising players like Nolan, Carroll and the just-signed Hatim Ben Arfa. They have been playing a good game in the last month and are seemingly looking to stay in the top level for further seasons.

Chelsea's encounter with Newcastle will be a preparatory match for their face-off against City, who had humiliated them twice last season. This time the Blues will be looking to avenge that defeat. But before that they need to overcome Newcastle tomorrow at Stamford Bridge.

Given the form that Drogba & Co. are in it seems that Newcastle stands no chance to make it past the Blues', but in football nothing can be predicted. Ancelotti surely will have a tough time picking his starting line-up.

The Blues' need to keep their focus and not be too carefree as Newcastle hitmen Carroll and Ben Arfa are known exploiters of any such distractions.

It will be a tough fixture for Blues' but seemingly they will overcome Newcastle 3-1 at Stamford Bridge and make it to the next rounds.
