Chelsea Extend Contract With Hilario

Portuguese Signs One Year Contract Extension.

Henrique Hilario who joined Chelsea in summer of 2006 has signed a contract extension with Chelsea which will keep him at Stamford Bridge till the end of the next season. Hilario was out of the contract in this summer.

I have seen many people saying it is an absolutely ridiculous decision taken by the club when we are actually supposed to sign players at this point of time, and it’s madness that we gave contract extension to 35 year old player who made his only appearance last season in Community Shield match against United. I would like to give my opinion on this!

I totally welcome the decision by the club to extend his contract. He knows he is 2nd choice goalkeeper at Chelsea and seems to have accepted his role behind mighty Petr Cech. Also in this situation we do not need at all to strengthen our goalkeeping department and spending few odd millions only to sign goal keeper who will warm bench is way costlier than giving contract extension to soon to retire goalkeeper who doesn’t complain.

Another thing is we have two upcoming young goal keepers in the name of Taylor and Delac but sadly no one has high level of experience to guard Chelsea’s net in Premier League as Taylor spent last season with Crewe and Delac was sent on loan to Vitesse where he did not make even a single appearance. So replacing Hilario with any of them was risky.

Hence I would like to say again that I am really happy that Hilario was given contract extension and he accepted it as well.
